Monica Gruosso

Hi everyone! I’m Monica, a Software Engineer based in Milan, Italy.

I was born in Potenza, Italy, on April 24, 1992. I graduated with honors in Computer Engineering from the University of Basilicata in July 2018.

That same year, I joined the Department of Mathematics, Computer Science, and Economics, (DiMIE) at the University of Basilicata, where I completed my Ph.D. in Mathematics and Computer Science. My thesis, titled “Human Segmentation with Deep Convolutional Neural Networks”, and the Ph.D. course were supervised by Dr. Ugo Erra.

My professional journey combines academic research in artificial intelligence and computer vision with hands-on software engineering experience, working on backend services, desktop applications, and web-based solutions. I have contributed to both new developments and existing product evolution, mainly using Python and C++.

I enjoy understanding complex systems, solving technical challenges, and learning new technologies. I am particularly interested in frontend development, user interfaces, and software architecture, while continuing to grow as a hands-on technical professional.

In my free time, I enjoy cooking, reading (especially crime novels), and watching movies and TV series. I also stay active by cycling and swimming.
